Trans World Airlines, formed as Transcontinental and Western Air in 1930, was the largest user of Constellation Variants, with 146 in service by 1959. N86516 was an L-049 Constellation and part of the initial order for TWA, built by Lockheed at Burbank, California. It was retired on May 17, 1957 and replaced by L-1049 Super Constellations. Sold in March 1962, it never flew again and was broken up two years later.
